The End of a Phrase

Not in your mouth.

There were days that I said that phrase countless times.  I would drive myself crazy saying the same words over and over again.

Not in your mouth.

And then I woke up this morning, and for some reason, the words popped into my head.

Not in your mouth.

I realized that I honestly can't remember the last time I've said those words to Claire.  The words still pass from my lips, but they are directed, infrequently, at Bridget.

Not in your mouth.

No big breakthrough here in getting through a challenging behavior, just a quick reminder to myself that Claire is constantly changing and growing, and we will get through the hard times.

  1. An excellent reminder. I always have to remind people that their children *will* (in most, most cases) be potty trained, that they *will* stop throwing things, that they *will* learn to eat with utinsils, that they *will* do so many things that we find so incredibly frustrating at certain stages in their lives. But while those stages seem to last forever, they *are* just stages, and should pass. So glad to know "not in your mouth" is a phrase of the past! :-)

  2. Being consistent and more stubborn than my child in the fact that my "no" is going to win over her "yes" every time is one of the hardest parts of parenting her. "hide your tongue" "don't grind your teeth" "don't throw things" all had times that I uttered them a million times a day, every single time she did them. Finally they get through. Agreed - this is a very good reminder.

  3. I can't wait to be able to stop saying that phrase. It is odd, no matter what changes with my two older girls, they still put too much stuff in their mouths, lol.

  4. I find myself saying those exact words less and less too, it still comes out a couple of times a day but not nearly as often as it use too! The biggest thing I realized is that Sutter can now eat a bowl of mac and cheese without spilling or dropping any on the floor...this is huge! :)

  5. I am still saying "Jesenia, that is not for your mouth." But, I may only have to say it once or twice. So, I guess it is getting better on my end too. :)

  6. With teenagers, I have graduated to "watch your mouth". Little angels with all this great language they hear in the movies.

  7. Good reminder. I am ready to get out of the "We don't throw" phase. :)

  8. Hands to self! That is my least favorite phrase or mouth to self! Either one! Every time Maddie puts something in her mouth I think great she is getting sick and I am watching it happen! Smiles
